Miracle Mile Is Learning to Do Mornings

Seven food businesses opened or were announced on Miracle Mile in 2026. Five of them lead with breakfast, coffee, pastry or lunch: Buccan Sandwich Shop, STAND, Ami Ami, Le Macaron French Pastries and Call Your Mother Deli. Only two of the seven are built mainly around dinner. The Mile has long counted on its theater and its first-Friday nights. This year most of the new tenants are building a second shift that starts at 8 a.m.

One Office Parcel, Three Restaurants, Two Clocks

The largest change sits at the east end. 100 Miracle Mile used to hold a three-story office building whose tenants included SunTrust Bank and H&R Block. It now holds a new low-rise mixed-use building from developer MAS^AJP, designed by Coral Gables architects Behar, Font and Partners, with a single ten-thousand-square-foot restaurant space inside.

Chef Clay Conley and Palm Beach-based Ember Group split that space three ways. The Buccan Sandwich Shop was serving by mid-May. The full Buccan restaurant opened Friday, May 22, and Imoto, the Japanese small-plates concept, followed on June 8 with its own entrance on Galiano Street, according to Miami New Times. This is the first time the Buccan brand has expanded beyond Palm Beach, where Conley opened the original in January 2011. It is also his first Miami-Dade restaurant since he left Azul at the Mandarin Oriental in 2010.

Coral Gables Magazine said the two Miracle Mile storefronts split the day: "dinner when you want the full show, sandwiches when you do not." The sandwich counter sells sandwiches, salads, cookies, drinks and takeout. Buccan itself is a sharing-plates room with an open kitchen, serving dishes like hamachi tiradito, steak tartare with black truffle, and duck confit with scallion pancake. The daytime counter has a history behind it. In Palm Beach, the Buccan Sandwich Shop started in a converted storage room of about three hundred square feet at the back of the restaurant. In Coral Gables it got its own street frontage from the first day.

Next Door, a Michelin Team Chose Daylight

STAND opened at 98 Miracle Mile on June 4, in the space where Mai Sushi Tapas Bar used to be. It comes from Chef Shingo Akikuni and managing partner Kenzie Motai, the team behind SHINGO, the omakase restaurant that earned a Michelin star in 2024. Their second Gables concept is a daytime café based on the Japanese bakery and coffee-shop culture they grew up around.

The menu centers on sandos made with milk bread that is baked in house every day by Chef de Cuisine Lania Andrade, who was previously SHINGO's pastry chef. The bread is topped with a toasted crème in rotating brûlée, chocolate or curry flavors. There is also a double-stacked chicken katsu sando, plus bento boxes, pastries, matcha shipped from Japan, single-origin Guatemalan coffee and hōjicha. The narrow room seats 24.

STAND's evening plan is the clearest sign of where the Mile stands this fall. In July, Coral Gables Magazine reported that "this fall, it becomes a dimly lit izakaya at night, serving seasonal small plates with sake, beer, and wine." As of mid-October, STAND's own site lists only daytime service, Wednesday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and it is closed Monday and Tuesday. No evening menu is posted. Treat the izakaya as announced but not yet open. Online hours sometimes lag a soft launch, but nothing published so far shows that night service has started.

West of Ponce, the Same Pattern at Smaller Scale

The east end could be one developer's plan, but the same tilt shows up in the 300 block, where no single operator set the course.

The Burn Miami reported that Ami Ami opened at 318 Miracle Mile in late August as a "cultural cafe." It is a restaurant, a small art gallery and a bookstore in one room. Work by local artists hangs on the walls, including photographs by co-owner Dushan Drakalski, and one wall is a bookshelf holding hundreds of titles. The menu is Mediterranean with other European influences, most notably flammkuchen, the savory flatbread from Alsace. It opened from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday, and planned to extend to 9 p.m. starting in September. So even the one new 300-block business with evening hours started with mornings.

A few doors west, Le Macaron French Pastries opened at 392 Miracle Mile and held a grand-opening event on Saturday, August 29.

The pending opening follows the same pattern. Bodega Taqueria y Tequila closed its 317 Miracle Mile location after a farewell party at the end of July. Call Your Mother Deli, a bagel shop and deli that started in Washington, D.C., in 2018, announced it is taking over the space for its first South Florida location. The announcement described malt-boiled bagels baked in the shop daily, with sandwiches including the Jetski, which piles brisket, pastrami and sofrito on a cheddar bagel. MiamiCurated lists the target opening as December 2026. That is a target, not an opening date. In effect, a tequila bar's space is becoming a breakfast counter.

The Evening Still Runs on Older Institutions

New tenants are filling the mornings. After dark, most of the Mile's draw still comes from the institutions it already had.

The largest of these is Actors' Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre. Its building now carries the name the Dr. Lawrence and Barbara Stein Center for the Performing Arts, dedicated on July 23, 2025, to honor the company's founders. Community Newspapers reported that the Steins led a public-private effort in the early 1990s to save, acquire and restore the theater. A $10 million capital campaign paid for the work, and the theater reopened in 1995. The Miracle Theatre is still the historic name of the venue.

This fall's Actors' Playhouse schedule runs Jekyll & Hyde from October 7 through November 1 and The Wizard of Oz from October 6 through 31. A Christmas Carol, The Musical follows from December 1 through 20.

The city's own calendar adds the other evening draws. Gables Gallery Night opens galleries from 6 to 10 p.m. on first Fridays, and its current listing runs through December 4. Giralda Live fills Giralda Plaza at 120 Giralda Avenue on first Fridays from 7 to 11 p.m., with live music from 8 to 10. On October 31, the city's schedule lists Día de los Muertos and Trick-or-Treat on the Mile.

Of the 2026 arrivals, Buccan and Imoto are the clearest dinner rooms. Ami Ami has announced evening hours, and STAND has promised an izakaya. The rest of the Mile's evening still depends on a theater rescued in the 1990s and a set of first-Friday events.

A Full Day on the Mile, as It Stands This Fall

With the current hours and dates, a single Saturday or first Friday on the Mile now covers both shifts:

  1. 8 a.m. STAND opens at 98 Miracle Mile for milk-bread sandos and matcha, Wednesday through Sunday.
  2. 9 a.m. onward Ami Ami at 318 for flammkuchen and the bookshelf, Tuesday through Sunday.
  3. Midday The Buccan Sandwich Shop at 100 for takeout, or Le Macaron at 392 for pastry.
  4. Before 4 p.m. STAND's kitchen closes, so a sando order has to come before then.
  5. Evening Dinner at Buccan or Imoto, then Jekyll & Hyde at the Stein Center through November 1, or Gallery Night and Giralda Live on a first Friday.

Two changes are still pending. STAND's izakaya would give a morning tenant evening service, and Call Your Mother's December opening at 317 would add one more breakfast counter in the middle of the Mile.
